Character Counter
Free Twitter Character Counter
Type or paste. Watch the counter. The big difference from a generic word counter: this one knows that every URL on Twitter/X counts as 23 characters regardless of length — and if you go over 280, it splits cleanly into a numbered thread for you.

When to use it
When you're drafting on the edge of 280
You wrote something good. It's at 287. You need to cut seven characters without killing the line. Watch the counter, pick your edits, ship.
When you're turning a paragraph into a thread
Paste anything longer than 280 and the tool drops it into properly-counted, numbered tweets you can copy one by one.
When you keep underestimating link length
A short link feels short. To Twitter, every link is 23 characters. This counter actually does the math.
Frequently asked
Why does my link count as 23 characters?
Twitter/X wraps every URL through t.co, which is exactly 23 characters. Doesn't matter if your link is 12 chars or 200 — it's always 23 to the counter.
Does it handle emojis correctly?
Yes. Most emojis count as two characters on Twitter; some (with skin-tone modifiers or compound sequences) count as more. We count the way the platform does.
What about the longer character limits on X Premium?
If you toggle 'long-form mode' the counter goes up to 25,000 (X Premium limit). Default is the standard 280-character free-tier limit.
Will my draft be saved if I refresh?
No — we don't persist your text. It's a counter, not a draft tool. For drafts, scheduling, and library, that's what the full Meshio app does.
